Weeks 1 & 2: Self-Regulate

In these weeks we lay the groundwork for bottom-up processing to recover your nervous system from the body up. This supports you to develop body-based approaches to stress to become curious about and responsive to your body’s physiological messages of safety or threat.

You will learn to:

  • Develop Somatic Awareness
  • Practice Nervous System Regulation
  • Orient from Thoughts and Cognition to present-time awareness
  • Practice Exteroception (awareness of the immediate world around us)
  • Practice Interoception (awareness of the immediate world within us)

Weeks 3 & 4: Build Capacity

In these weeks we will explore the two parts of the autonomic nervous system, the parasympathetic and the sympathetic.

You will learn to:

  • Recognize the physiological markers of the sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight response)
  • Recognize the physiological markers of the parasympathetic nervous system (turning collapse response into rest and digest)
  • Move into the sympathetic response with activation movements and breath
  • Move into the parasympathetic response with restorative movements and breath
  • Move between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system
  • Initiate a stress response consciously
  • Initiate a relaxation response consciously

Weeks 5 – 8: Move Your Nervous System

In these weeks we will begin to apply your new skills at navigating your nervous system to your personal stressors and triggers. This supports you in responding skillfully to stressors or trauma responses as they arise.

You will learn to:

  • Recognize the unique physiological, mental, and emotional patterns of your personal triggers
  • Move your nervous system consciously into a sympathetic state to respond to those triggers
  • Apply movement and breath to discharge the stress response and complete the stress cycle
  • Return to a relaxation cycle

Weeks 9 & 10: Rest and Digest

In these weeks we will move more deeply into the relaxation cycle. This supports your body in deep metabolic restoration and recovery and supports immune function. This is particularly helpful for those with chronic illnesses related to stress or trauma.

You will learn to:

  • Prepare your body for a relaxation response
  • Move more deeply into the relaxation response through restorative movements and breath
  • Experience insights and embodied wisdom that come from a relaxed body and mind
  • Develop long-term strategies that support the relaxation response

Weeks 11 & 12: Grow Resilience

In these weeks we will explore long-term practices to grow a resilient nervous system.

You will learn to:

  • Increase vagal tone (which is an indicator of resilience)
  • Cultivate long-term practices that support healthy nervous system responses
  • Integrate stress recovery periods into your daily life
  • Adopt evidence-based approaches for long term-resilience and wellness
