The Trauma-Informed Practitioner:

Nervous System Skills for Client Transformation

As a dedicated professional working with the human body — you will likely encounter clients whose nervous systems are dysregulated by chronic stress and trauma. This dysregulation creates obstacles in their capacity to process new information and effectively incorporate the benefits of your modality. It can also have long-lasting effects on their immune function, mental health, and ability to live intentional lives.

Without the right skillset as a body-based practitioner, addressing stress and trauma responses can be incredibly challenging and overwhelming. This lack of nervous system knowledge can leave you feeling frustrated and unsure, reducing the effectiveness of your modality and making it difficult to provide the support your clients need.

The good news is that integrating nervous system skills into your modality is achievable. With the comprehensive skills and knowledge from The Trauma-Informed Practitioner workshop, you will be equipped to create an environment where your clients can feel safe, understood, and empowered to heal. This training will put your clients nervous system at the center of your modality, increase the effectiveness of your work and lead to transformative outcomes in your client’s lives.

This training is designed for professionals in movement, wellness, yoga, mental health, and medical fields who seek to incorporate trauma-informed approaches into their work. It's also suitable for those who want to work in these fields.

Why We Do What We Do...

As an emergency physician, I really appreciate knowing that Via Somatic is a tool that I can provide to patients who are experiencing crises that are not well-treated by medications or missed by many of our diagnostic tools. It has greatly eased my conscience to be able to provide options other than pharmaceuticals or traditional counseling for people who feel out of control due to life stresses, chronic pain, or so many other sources of trauma.

Stefan Jensen, MD
Jenn is a gifted teacher. She has a knack for both conveying the science and conceptual basis of somatic practices while gently anchoring and guiding students into their own body’s experience and inner wisdom. Her nervous system regulation practices have been time tested in the crucible of my life as an anesthesiologist. My work life is often one of sympathetic overdrive.
As I’ve learned to bring my nervous system back into a more relaxed and balanced state, I’ve found myself able to be a more regulated presence for my patients and coworkers.
Chris Harrison, MD
This program should be mandatory for life. A framework for understanding and appreciating not only my nervous system, but also those around me. This single thing was huge. It made me much less reactive to others and helped me be much more compassionate in situations that I would have previously been dismissive or defensive about.
The ability to recognize people, things, activities, and places that didn't serve me and put me out of regulation and also recognize those things that help keep me regulated, happy, and a slightly better person.
Tod Moore, Yoga Teacher & Athletic Trainer
Before this training, I used to stifle my more “negative” emotions, such as anger/rage, grief, until they would inevitably bubble over and explode. Now I can step back, excuse myself and release that energy in a healthy way. Then afterwards, I proceed to self-soothe and shift my nervous system back into balance from guidance I learned from Jenn in the training program. Bringing nervous system regulation tools into my teachings has been extremely profound.
Melissa C., RYT
Viasomatic has given me the tools to hold space for my clients in a way that I wasn't able to before. As a practitioner who works with trauma, I am always amazed at how effective these simple tools are in maintaining a regulated nervous system while I'm holding space for people processing their own (C)PTSD. I am recommending these programs to clients and fellow practitioners, alike!
Kyra
I knew stress and trauma can get stuck in our bodies and have a terrible ongoing effect on our wellness. But I didn’t know how to unstick my trauma and get it out of my body — until I found Viasomatic. Jenn’s videos and the materials are so welcoming and accessible, they quickly became my daily vitamin. Viasomatic has been a game changer for my mental and physical health and allowed me to move some major trauma from my body and get back on a path to thriving.
Leslie B., Yoga Therapy Client
Being in this training as a yoga teacher and a new mother has granted me so much emotional freedom. It was truly a blessing for the stage I am currently in life. I am able to now take a step back and reassess a triggering situation without an immediate reaction. I am better able to facilitate movement and self-regulation tools for my students and can recognize when someone comes into class dysregulated and how to navigate it.

Introducing the Viasomatic Method®

Nervous-System Centered Tools for Resilience and Healing

Through the Viasomatic Method, you'll assist clients in recognizing and addressing thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and physiological states associated with stress responses like fight, flight, freeze, and flop. You’ll learn the somatic skills to harness the body’s innate tendency towards balance (homeostasis).

This approach utilizes gentle and dynamic movements, specific breathing techniques, visual orientation methods, and self-contact to activate the autonomic nervous system's self-regulating mechanisms.

This integration allows body-based practitioners to enhance their modalities by addressing the foundational role of the nervous system in overall health and well-being, and provides clients with holistic tools for resilience and healing.

Meet the yoga therapist

Jenn Wooten (she/her)

E-RYT and C-IAYT
Hello and welcome! I am a certified yoga therapist, trauma-informed yoga teacher and teacher trainer, and the founder of Viasomatic. I've spent 30 years studying holistic, mind-body, and somatic practices for trauma healing and nervous system resilience. My own study of Polyvagal Theory with Stephen Porges radically changed how I work with clients.

Now, my work now is primarily guiding yoga teachers and mental health professionals to use movement for recovery from trauma and post-traumatic stress. Through this platform, we offer effective tools regulating the nervous system and recovering from stress, anxiety and trauma - tools which have enhanced my own well-being in immeasurable ways.

I believe in this work to empower you to take an active role in your well-being, foster personal agency, and create post-traumatic growth. I am committed to creating a nurturing and inclusive space, where you can explore the transformative power of yoga therapy and somatic practices.
